Scientists from the United States and Vietnam to find it after noticing that all the lizards in the tank in the restaurant turned out to be androgynous females.
Leiolepis small lizard species previously undocumented ngovantrii can reproduce by cloning, according to CNN reports.
The story of the discovery occurred when a reptile expert Vietnam know that all the lizards who served in the dinner dishes in a remote province are female. He contacted an American colleague who then flew to Vietnam to help.
Dr. Lee Grismer that fly to Hanoi and then spent two days to go to the region, according to the CNN team encountered some obstacles in the way, including a restaurant owner who promises to give some of these lizards but could not be delivered.
"Unfortunately, the owner of the drinking and ended up drunk and roasting the lizards for subscription restaurant, so when we arrived there was nothing left."
The team then searched the other cafes and hire children to look for the lizards. They found 60 head and realized that the lizard is a new species.
"The lizard is entirely new lineage of life that are eaten and sold in restaurants," he said. "But the reptile is something that is not seen by scientists for hundreds of years."
However, Dr. Grismer says that eating lizards may not be popular outside of Vietnam.
"You try one bite the lizard cuisines and tastes like something very old and dead in your mouth," he concluded.
